How is ARTEIS different than other workplaces?
ARTEIS is a managed workplace that takes full responsibility for quality, efficiency, and delivery to the client. We do not simply provide a bulletin board type of exchange where people spend most of their time looking for work, rather than doing it. We guarantee the client that their job will get done on time, and that the quality will be better than they can get anywhere else for the same price. To the designer, we provide easy access to work and immediate payment.
The pay seems really low, why should I work for this amount?
ARTEIS is not for everyone. If it takes you 8 hours to do 2 logo compositions, it might not be in your best interest to participate. However, if you are good at logo designs you will probably earn well in the ARTEIS community. Most of our 'expert' designers make over $1000/month. Here's an example:

Joe works his way up to the advanced level. He generally takes 2 hours to create professional logo concepts, and about 1 hour to do revisions. Joe wins about 40% of the jobs he undertakes. Here's how much Joe would earn after 10 projects:

ADVANCED DESIGNER PAYOUT EXAMPLE

ARTEIS is not about exploiting designers. Since no one but you can determine how much time it will take you to complete the projects, no one but you can determine if our system is equitable for you. For many designers this system is equitable, if not lucrative. Others use the system to build portfolios, for recruitment purposes, or to keep their creative minds sharp. ARTEIS works for a lot of designers, you will need to see if it works for you.

I am an expert - do I have to start as an entry designer?
Yes. Everyone starts at the same place. Who are we (ARTEIS) to decide who is and isn't an "expert?" We let the clients and the community itself decide who is "advanced" and "expert." If you are good at pleasing the clients and/or are seen as an expert by the community - you will quickly merit the "expert" rating.

Are you telling me that I might only make $25 for my compositions?
Yes. If you remain in the 'new' bracket, you will make $25 for your compositions. Of course, if you are chosen by the client you could make and additional $105 in bonuses and revision work (platinum project). See the example above to see what kind of potential there is.

Why are there multiple designers on each project?
ARTEIS believes that more creativity is always better. By using multiple designers not in contact with each other, the client receives a greater deal of variety. Since it's hard to know exactly what the client wants, the larger amount of creativity helps us get closer to a product that will please the client.

Why do you use in-house designers on the revisions?
ARTEIS provides private labeled design centers for large customers that have a retail presence. Since we are handling their customers, we have to guarantee them quality and efficiency. We have found that they feel more comfortable knowing that we at least have one person in-house working on the job. The most logical place for this is towards the end of the project, in the nit-picky revision phase ("I want to see the icon in 6 different colors!") In this way, you are still compensated for early revisions that involve substantive changes, and you probably didn't want to do the later revisions anyway!

What is the sign-up process like?
We have a profile form on our site that you must complete before doing work as a freelancer on ARTEIS. There is some personal information that we will verify before you can get started. This process usually takes 1-2 business days.

We will ask for two samples of your work, to verify a minimum standard of professionalism. Past agency experience is often helpful to our designers who work in the ARTEIS community, but it is not required to join. Regardless of experience, everyone starts as an entry level designer and must perform to get paid more.

Once we receive your application, we will do three things:
1) Review your samples
2) Verify you social security number
3) Call your chosen number at the specified time for voice confirmation
Can I remain anonymous and work for ARTEIS?
No. Since we are sending immediate payment, and guarantee quality to our clients - we must know who you are.

Why do you need personal information to participate with ARTEIS?
First, we will need to send you a 1099 if you make over $500...and most designers make that in a month or two. Second, not all people do what they say they will. In order to maintain the quality of the ARTEIS community, we make sure we know exactly who the designers are. In this way, if someone was to try and abuse the system - they are eliminated immediately and not allowed to return.

We have an obligation to ensure quality to our clients. Other freelancing sites are often plaqued with anonymous users that do not always treat clients appropriately, or that have decided to participate only to try and cause problems. Our sign-up process is designed to weed out the tire kickers and trouble makers.

What will ARTEIS do with my personal information?
Your personal information is kept confidential. The only case in which we would make any part of your information available is if you have opted to let recruiters look at your design work. In this case, they will have access to your work and to your email address only. Credit card information is not stored, and all other personal information is strictly confidential. See the ARTEIS privacy policy.

How does ARTEIS get work?
ARTEIS operates its own portal for consumers at Logoworks.com. You can see how clients interact with us there. Additional work comes from partners that use a private labeled design center. Although it looks and feels like the partner's site, customers are really working with ARTEIS and our community.
